  • Can’t see multi clip in Viewer during playback

Posted by Walter Coles on April 29, 2010 at 2:18 am

I am working on a 34 min. multi clip project in FCP 7 – 4 up with 2 angles. I made the first pass for a rough cut with no problems. However, on second pass to trim, tweak, and change cuts, I can not see the multi clip in the Viewer on playback in Canvas, making it impossible to see the multi clip for trims, etc. during playback. When I pause playback the multi clip appears again in Viewer, but disappears again when I playback. “Multiclip Playback” is activated in the RT pop-up menu and “Open” is selected in the Sync pop-up. What happened between the two passes. How can I fix this problem?

First, make sure that you have not collapsed the multiclip. Then double-click on the multiclip in the timeline to bring it back into the viewer, and select “Open” again.

Thank you. Actually,I have done all you suggested. I found that the problem was that the project had rendered. I trashed the render file and am back in business. I appreciate your response.

    Walter,

If you collapse the clip after editing, you won’t need to render.

Thanks for your help. I was not aware that the multi clip could be collapsed after edit without messing up the edit. Helpful tip.

If removing the render files won’t help, the second option is just to remove the multiclip from the timeline and slect it again from the file bin en place it back in the timeline. Works great.
