    Mick,

You could transcode all the clips via FCP or quicktime from uncompressed to dvcproHD which is compressed.

The major issue you have is you are using the wrong hard drive USB for this application.

I highly recommend getting a firewire 400 or 800 raid if you intend on doing any serious editing.

    Dimensions: 1280×720
    Codecs: DVCPRO HD vout 720p60
    Imdc, Integer (Big Endian)
    Timecode
    Channel Count: 1
    Duration: 29’58

that is what appears on the get info window for one of the clips. this footage was captured at a post house using the dvcpro deck and fcphd.

Is this info from Quicktime? You should check the properties in FCP instead, it’s more accurate. With DVCPROHD Quicktime will tell you the wrong resolution.

i downloaded the codec from apple and installed it. so what else is there?

If you can, try copying the clips to another setup that you know can play DVCProHD. Then you’ll know if the clips are bad or if it’s something with your system. Get a fast firewire drive and use the USB drive for backup.
