Cant Render or work with HD footage shot at 16fps
Hi.
I recently rented Sony ex1 and shot some footage with it at 16fps @ 1080. the sony ex1 saves this footage as an mp4.
I want to eventually take this into after effects, but AE does not really apreciate mp4.
So i start at premiere, However premeire does not have a preset for 16fps, the closest being 23.97. The footage is chopy and wont render and if i do try and export it i get nothing really.
I tried changing the frame rate at the work flow by telling it to assume the clip is shot at 16fps, but no cigar :(.

Well, at 16 fps it’s going to be choppy, but try unchecking frame blending on the clip first and see if things improve.
I’m assuming you are trying to do timelapse?
Unfortunately if you want a native timeline for XDCam, you are stuck with either 24, 30, or 60 fps. You can however create a custom “desktop” sequence and change the settings to anything you like.

Thanks very much for the reply Vince. I am unfamiliar with how to create a custom “desktop” sequence. I was also thinking the footage plays fine on a player, is there a way to recapture that footage from the player on a codec that keeps every frame?

So you are trying to play this realtime? I mean the other frames are lost at this point.
You can create a custom sequence by going to the custom settings tab, and then select “desktop” as a preset, then enter any settings you like.

I want it to look like a series of consecutive bulb photography pictures. if i change the speed to 66% after i change the presets will it behave like 24fps you think?

That should get you the look you are looking for, although it depends on the shutter speed you used during the shoot and how much motion there was with the camera itself. These types of footage like a steady tripod.
