    Hi,

I have a copy of Media Composer 5 but i cant play any clips back. I have footage that was shot on a panasonic 151 at 1080p. When i import the clip into Avid i can scan through it ok but when i hit play it is just black bot in the timeline and raw viewer.

Also when using ama it just holds on a random frame no matter what clip i am using.

    Please help

You’ll need an extremely powerful computer to pull that off. Most folks agree that AMA with H264 (or AVCHD) is just for browsing, selecting and logging. You’ll need to transcode to DNxHD to properly be able to edit with this footage.

The footage is already converted into quicktime files. Even when i import them they wont playback just black or a still frame all the ay through. The same files work in AE, FCP and AP.

I’m really stuck at the moment as i cant get ANY footage to work.

What do you mean by converted? What codec are they in now?

If you open them in Quicktime player, and hit CMD-I (Mac) or CTRL-I (PC), what codec does it say the file is in?
Quicktime is just a container format, and it can contain a variety of different codecs.

    OK, that should run fine.
Can you post your system specs? You mentioned the GeForce card (which is not supported by Avid), but what about the rest of the setup?

    Hi Ben,

I was looking at your blog about the problem of playing clips with Media composer. It seems I have the same issue. How did you solve the problem, what drivers did you install? Thank you for your help!
