  • Can’t Output 4 Channels of Audio When Editing To Tape SDI To a Digibeta Deck

Posted by Jeff Coffman on December 4, 2008 at 8:26 pm

I’m using the Kona 2 to output 8 Bit Uncompressed with 4 channels of audio to a Digibeta Deck, which I’ve been able to do many times before.

When I preview the tone in the Edit To Tape menu I can see the levels on all four channels go up, but when I assemble an edit, only 1 and 2 are going through.

I have all 4 channels selected in the drop down menu in the bottom right corner of the Edit To Tape window.

I remember in the past this was also effected by the mixdown button of the Audio Mixing window, but i’ve tried that toggled ways both ways.

I’ve also changed the sequence settings to 4 channel output.

    Thanks

    Jeff

I wanted to post the solution in case anyone else has this problem. Kona Tech support is probably the best support out there for any product.

After checking all the sequence settings and audio video output settings he had me check something I’ve never known about. If you control click just next to the lock on on the audio portion of the sequence, you have to make sure that track 1 is set to 1, track 2 is set to 2, track 3 is set to 3, and track 4 is set to 4.

I hope that helps someone out there.

Yes, that’s exactly the way to do that. Another reason to take FCP training classes.

    seconded.

the good part is once you’ve done it you can save it a preset
in the audio setup of final cut pro.

i have one for 4 channel and 5.1 surround.

A little condescending… I have taken a FCP training class. If you learned every single thing about FCP from a class there would be no reason to have a forum.

    Jeff,

I think Kevin’s point was this is a pretty basic function.

Granted, you wouldn’t learn it in a 101 class, but you’d definitely know it if you were a Tape Op or FCP Assistant.

Where would it be covered when…???

Doing an HDCamSR layback with all 12 channels of audio. Channels 1-6: discrete 5.1 surround, 7,8: Stereo, 9,10: M&E, 11,12: bilingual Mono Described Video.

Channels 1-6, 11 and 12 should be mono, I expect. Channels 7, 8 and 9, 10 should be stereo pairs, am I on the right track, so to speak?

Now, when you stack the trax, over a certain number, you will get a red render bar in the audio sequence… Know how to fix this?

User Prefs, provided you have a fast enough Mac to handle the tracks. We’re set for 24 tracks of audio playback in realtime.
