  • Can’t Open 1 of 4 files from P2 Card. Serious Problem

Posted by Bob Lampel on February 23, 2011 at 9:39 pm

I performed a straight Log and Transfer from the P2 card to a drive but only 3 of the 4 files on the card transcoded into FCP. I also copied the contents of my card to a hard drive. When I try to bring it the copied MXF files to FCP via Log and Transfer, again only the first 3 clips move across. (There are over 3 gbs of media in the suspect file) Is there a utility or work-around to try and get this open?
It’s possible, but not probable, that the file is from a previous session and didn’t get deleted along with everything else. If that’s the case, the Last.txt file that works for the 3 good files would be incorrect for the suspect file (since it’s left over from a previous session.) The real issue is that I am missing the first half of a spanned file and think this might be it. Can a file be opened without a last.txt file? Any ideas?
    Thanks

    Do you have the card?

Was there a sudden interruption while recording? Maybe you need to repair that clip in camera before you can import it into fcp?

I have the card but the files were deleted. (They are what I copied to my hard drive.) Do you think it’s worth copying them back onto the P2 card and trying a repair?

    Hey Bob

I have never tried this before (copying files back to card).

Since you have already deleted the card, i guess you have no option but to copy the files back to card and see if the clip plays in the camera.

I guess I have nothing to lose. BTW, there was no apparent interruption when I recorded the suspect file.

Did you copy both the contents folder and the lastclip.txt to a new folder? You must do that or it won’t work.

I did. Like I said, three of four clips worked fine

    Are the clips spanned?

Yes. I have the second half of the spanned clip working fine.

In the Log and transfer window, do you see three clips and one of them says (spanned)?

Are you familiar with how p2 works?

It doesn’t. I’m reasonably familiar, if you’re asking if I know what spanned is. That said, I’m always up for any helpful info on anything P2 related.
