  • Can’t move overlay title right in frame.

Posted by Don Scioli on October 9, 2012 at 7:56 pm

Hi all- I used an overlay title attached to a time line for a title which is justified left and works with the shot. (see pix) However, I want to move it justified right for the next shot with the subject. I can’t seem to get the title to move right. Using the transform tool moves the entire image, creating a new storyline does the same, the browser does not have parameters for moving the title right. And I can’t seem to separate the title from the timeline, creating a new storyline does it, but the title then creates a weird matte. Cropping does the same to the entire image.

Any suggestions? I have some screen grabs, but they don’t want to post.

Do you have motion? You should have more control over the template if you open it in motion.

Hi- I just have motion 4, and I can’t seem to send it there plus, I’m not too good with motion. Anything I can do in FCPX?
    thanks

Is this a default title that came with FCPX or did you grab it form somewhere else? What’s the name of the title effect?

Am I right to understand that you can move the whole title to the right, but the next needs to be right justified instead of left justified?

If so, then the only way I know to adjust the parameters is to go back to where it was built, in Motion 5.

Motion 5 works with FCPX a little differently than how Motion 4 worked with FCP7.

Hi- It’s in the title section, Bumper/opener, Overlay. When I “drag” the title to the right, it takes the underlying timeline video with it. If I could separate the title and underlying video, maybe I could drag it over right?

Got it. Try putting the title into a compound clip by itself (select the title in the timeline, hit alt-g). Double click the compound clip and make your title adjustments in there. You can use transform like you did before to move it to the right, then select each line and right justify.

You are the man! Turned into compound clip, dragged to the right, made title changes, and cut it back to original timeline and it works perfect!

    Glad you managed it.

I think the few bucks for Motion 5 everybody should spend.
With Motion it would have been just a few seconds to change the title. You just have to delete the Drop Zone and save.
