Can’t log with Canon XH A1
I see this has been covered a few times here, but still can’t figure out what voodoo is necessary to make my HDV camera behave appropriately.
So I’m in the unfortunate position of having to capture to a non-FW drive — I’ve tried both USB and capturing direct to the internal drive since my camera is using my FW port. (For editing, I switch everything to a FW800 drive after it’s been captured. I haven’t noticed any issues with the final footage.)
When I captured using this setup and the HDV capture preset and HDV Firewire control preset, I got a logging window where I could set useful clip properties. For this project I’m capturing using ProRes 422. CMD-8 just gives me a dialog for naming the clip and then starts capturing.
This isn’t the end of the world as I do very little logging. But it’s still a minor pain to add things like Reel to the clips after they’ve been captured. Does anyone know why this happens and whether I can avoid it?
