  • Can’t insert edit without trashing FCP prefs first

With my new Macbook Pro I’m having difficulties insert editing to my sony UVW-1800. I’m outputting to a G-RAID 3TB drive…then FW400 to my Deck. My AJA IoLA is connected via FW/component pigtail. I can edit all day long and monitor my output through the deck and to an external monitor but once I choose the insert edit function I lose the blue Firewire light on the front of the AJA and therefore – no signal to the deck. Trashing my FCP prefs enables it again…only until I want to do it again a few days later. Then it’s trashing prefs again. Very frustrating.
    Any ideas?

    Thanks,
    Rich

You need to split the firewire bus by getting a fw800/400 expresscard/34 and put the drive on that, then have the iola on your MBP.

    Thanks Jeremy.
Will this also create a more efficient system overall…ie; fewer dropped frames, etc.? Any brand recommendation?

    Thanks again!
