  • Can’t import vp61 codec videos into VEGAS PRO 18?

Posted by Joe Winko on October 3, 2024 at 7:52 pm

I’m trying to import video clips that I filmed in the Sims 2 into Sony Vegas Pro 18 but it’s not letting me drag & drop them into the timeline at all. It isn’t giving me an error message, it just simply isn’t letting me drag & drop the clips into the timeline.

I believe this is caused by a codec error.

the clips worked on earlier versions of sony vegas that i was using after i installed the codec (it’s been so long though, im not 100% sure if this is the codec but im pretty sure it is) vp6 codec (or as it’s also called vp61 codec)

the files are all in avi format.

I remember I had to do stuff to get the videos to import into Sony Vegas 13 but i cant remember exactly what I did because it’s been so long ago, BUT HERE IS WHAT I TRIED DOING SO FAR TO GET THEM INTO VEGAS 18:

I copied & pasted the files vp6, vp6install, & vp6vfw into the Sony Vegas 18 directory & tried restarting my computer but it’s still not working…

Is there a way I can enable this codec to work in Sony Vegas 18 so I can drag & drop these videos into the timeline?
    PLEASE HELP ♥

Hello Joe! I see you asked this same question on VCS forums and Reddit too so I will answer a bit differently from the rest. So from what I have research, there does not seem to be a codec particular for Vegas 18 PRO to be able to play these videos. I would suggest converting your VP61 videos to AVI, MP4 or MOV format so at least you can use these videos in Vegas PRO to support this format. This is the first time I heard of VP61 but from my understanding there are past codecs that used to work on older versions of Vegas PRO but no longer in the newer ones, mainly cause perhaps they did not made codecs that supports the new version due to perhaps them discountinuing the codec support. I had issues before that they did not support certain formats but after installing the codec for that, it works but thats cause it was still supporting the current Vegas Pro I use and its a more common format. Hope this helps and best of luck on this!
