  • Can’t import P2 footage

    Hi Forum:

I’m trying to import footage from the new Varicam into FCP 6.0.5 via Log and Transfer. I go to Add Folder, select the parent folder (on an external hard drive) for a reel that has the Contents folder and LASTCLIP.TXT file inside of it. I click Open. I get nothing. Just back to the Log and Transfer window with no new clips showing. No error message. I’ve also tried to drag the folder into the Log and Transfer window, but no new clips show up that way either.

I have the PanasonicAVCIntraCodec.component (version 1.2) in my Quicktime folder, as well as the P2 driver for Mac. Don’t have FX Factory installed.

    Here are my specs…
MacBook Pro 2.4 GHz Intel Core 2 Duo
    FCP v6.0.5
    QT v7.6

The only thing I can think of is that my software is too up to date. Any suggestions would be much appreciated.

    Thanks!
    Jen

The software can’t be TOO up to date in this case. Hmmm…and this isn’t footage shot with the HPX-500? You say the new VARICAM…do you mean the HPX-2700 or the HPX-3700? Or the HPX-2000 or HPX-3000?

This isn’t a Duel adapter issue as this is on an external hard drive…

(Just thinking out loud…er…on the keyboard…)

Why not go to http://www.panasonic.com/p2 and download the AVCIntra codec installer and install it AGAIN. Perhaps there is a new one?

How’d did you transfer the footage from the P2 cards?

Thanks, Shane & Jeremy. It was the 3700. I just installed the AVC Intra Decoder for Mac the other day, so I know I have the most up to date version of that.

I didn’t offload the card contents, someone else at the production company did. And they were able to ingest the material via Log and Transfer on their systems. I have the resulting Quicktimes from them, so I’ve been able to edit. But I sure would like to figure out what is off with my set up so I can work with other material soon. Bit of a head scratcher!

Do you have RED stuff installed on your system? I saw a post the other day where someone could import P2 til the cows came home, but then installed RED decoding software or converting softare, and then L&T no longer saw the P2 cards.

    Might that be it?

What’s in the p2 CONTENTS folders?

[Jeremy Garchow] “What’s in the p2 CONTENTS folders? “

that would be my guess too,

that the entire contents of the disk was not transfered.

AH…you both missed his comment on his second post…

“I didn’t offload the card contents, someone else at the production company did. And they were able to ingest the material via Log and Transfer on their systems. I have the resulting Quicktimes from them, so I’ve been able to edit.”

Another machine imported them just fine. His system won’t. So the file structure appears as though it would be intact. Otherwise the other system wouldn’t have been able to import as well.

And how do we know it’s the exact same footage from the exact same drive?

People do crazy stuff with P2 structures.

    Hi guys:

Yes, I took the same hard drive back to the production company, and they were able to ingest the same material. So, it shouldn’t be a file structure problem.

    Thanks,
    Jen (female, btw 🙂
