  • Can’t Import .mov or mp4 files into FCP5.1

    Hi Guys,

I came looking for some help with a problem with importing .mov and mp4 files into a project in FCP5.1. I am in to process of creating a DVD for a client for a Christmas present for his wife. The DVD will have video and slide shows of key events from the first four years of their marriage. No problem getting all the DV and Hi 8 stuff into FCP.

The problem that I am having is my client wanted parts of a wedding DVD incorporated into this new DVD project so I extracted the video and audio from the DVD using the latest version HandBrake. I then ripped the files to both .mov and .mp4 files to be safe. Here is the problem. When I try to import the ripped files thru the import files command I get this error message “File Error: 1 file(s) recognized, 0 access denied, 1 unknown.” Any ideas on what is going on and how I can get these files into my project?

Thank you so much for your help in advance.

    Tony

I would use Mpeg Streamclip to rip the files to whatever codec you are using to edit with. It might deal with them better.

    It’s a free program.

mp4 files can’t be used in FCP. You need to make you .mov files in a format that FCP can deal with. I assume your edit timeline is DV so you need to see if Handbrake can make the DVD ripped mpeg 2 files into DV files.

    Jeremy,

    You are the man!

I downloaded StreamClip and brought the .mov files into it. I could not export them as mp2 files BUT I could export them as DV files. That work and I brought them right into FCP 5.1.

Thanks you so much for your suggestion. You saved my ars!
