    Hi,
I’m having issues importing a dvd (my own work) to Sony Vegas 8. I go into “file” then click “import” then “dvd camcorder disc”. It looks like it’s about to do something but then nothing happens. Thanks for your assistance with this!

Wow, that’s the proper proceedure. Make sure that you are using the latest version of Vegas Pro 8.0c to be sure that you’re not encountering some bug that has been fixed. Also make sure that your C: drive has enough space to import a 4.7GB DVD. Vegas Pro may import to a temp folder on C: and copy to the disc you want it on.

Thanks for the response John. I think you hit on it: The c drive. I am using a mac with bootcamp so I can edit in windows on Vegas. The bootcamp drive seems to get filled up very quickly – even though I’ve deleted everything I can think of from it. I’ll keep trying to get rid of more files on it.

I just managed to free up a little chunk of space on the bootcamp/c drive but I still am not able to import the dvd on Vegas. Could I have deleted something necessary to do that? Maybe some video app or something?

Dave, see if this technique from Gary James on the Sony Vegas forum works for you.

Make sure you’ve copied the VIDEO_TS folder and it’s contents to your hard drive first.

Vegas allows you to open up a DVD .IFO file. This imports the entire .VOB chain for both video and audio tracks.

Click File / Open, then navigate to your VIDEO_TS sub directory and enter *.IFO in the File name input field.
    For a regular DVD you will see a VIDEO_TS.IFO, and a VTS_01_0.IFO.
Select the VTS_01_0.IFO file and click on Open.
Don’t try this on a DVD disk because Vegas will try to build an .sfk file containing audio peaks in the VIDEO_TS directory.

[dave croonprince] “I am using a mac with bootcamp so I can edit in windows on Vegas.”

Maybe the problem is with the Windows DVD drivers for Bootcamp? I would try Mike’s suggestion of copying it to your hard drive and opening the .IFO from there.

Funny you should be having this problem. Yesterday I was running DVD Architect on my MacBook Pro via VMware Fusion 5 and when I pressed the Burn Disc button, my Mac rebooted!

So, John – it MUST be a bug in Vegas… (VBG)

    Hi,
I managed to import the dvd. It seems my computer didn’t like the dvd itself which was burned with one of those vdr recorders from a vhs tape. It has a menu window which I guess the computer couldn’t get past. So I downloaded a dvd decryptor and and ripped it to my computer. But I will try the above technique too! Thanks again.

Wow that’s really odd. I’ve never heard of that before but glad you figured it out.
