Can’t hear audio during HDV logging & capturing
Why am I not able to hear audio playback while I’m trying to log my HDV source tapes? The setup is simple; easy setup HDV 1080i60, Sony M10U deck connected via firewire. Changed audio playback to everything available but the audio via firewire is grayed out! Tried using headphones to monitor audio off the deck but the audio is so far out of sync from what I’m viewing in the capture window that it makes impossible to log. I don’t care how I monitor the audio as long as it’s in sync with what I’m viewing in the capture window.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

You can’t as far as I know. That’s one of the “pleasures” of working with HDV footage. I simply listened to the output of the deck itself the few times that we tried to edit in HDV. It was about 2 seconds out of sync, but close enough to allow me to log it.
Since then we simply convert everything to DVCPro HD during ingest and edit that way or with ProRes 422.

I wanted to monitor some HDV coming firewire off a Sony Z1 camera recently. Opened Log/capture. The meters were moving but no audio out. I then found in the Audio Video settings that the AVDevice page needed to be opened and my Decklink card selected for playback output. The Easy Setup had this deselected.
I could then monitor the audio as normal whilst playing or capturing HDV and of course it was in sync.

Never heard of that one. Good catch there. If I ever use HDV natively again, I’ll have to try that.
