cant get rid of black vertical bar on right side of preview and rendered output
When I drag any of my captured video onto my time line in any version of Vegas (currently using Vegas Pro 8) and look at it in the preview window there is a vertical black bar 2-3 pixels wide along the right side of the preview and this same black bar is there when I render the video to 720×480, 640×480, or even 360×240, even if I choose the option to stretch the output to fill the frame when I render. However, the captured .avi files do not have a black stripe when I view them in quicktime outside of Sony – they are just a regular 720×480 video, no problem.
The only way I seem to be able to get rid of the black empty space on the right side of the video in Vegas is to use the event pan/crop and zoom in slightly on each video to around 712×475, but this makes the render take forever when I do it to every video in the project, and I shouldn’t have to do it. I notice that if I go into pan/crop and just move the frame a few pixels to the left, the bar goes away but then I have a black bar on the left side due to the frame being outside the video.
I had this same problem on earlier versions of Vegas and still have it with a new install of Vegas 8 pro on a brand new install of WinXP. I have all defaults set for Vegas 8 and capture the video using the Vegas capture utility included with Vegas 8 via Firewire from 2 different standard def camcorders, a Panasonic and a Sony, capturing 720×480 frame size at 29.97 fps.
PLEASE help as this does not seem to be an issue for me with the captured video and does not seem to be a problem with my camcorders, but something inside of vegas. Perhaps I hit a shortcut key that changed some setting by accident as I was editing but it seems like this has been the case as long as I’ve been using Vegas, and I really don’t want to use another editor, but can’t just put up with this issue that my friends that use other editors have never seen and can’t fix for me.
