Hoping someone might be able to set me on the right path here…

I’ve been working with digi Beta footage captured using a blackmagic Decklink Extreme card at 10 bit uncompressed…

Using the original media files I have composited in AE 6.5 (a simple mask).

I have tried exporting using the lossless preset (animation codec), the blackmagic 10 bit codec, with fields rendered, without fields rendered, and numerous other available codevs, and always the result is dissapointing.

After importing back into FCP 5.04 the composited picture is always slightly softer than the original pictures.

    Why is this so?

    Many Thanks,

    I’ve solved it…

for those who are interested… the footage needed to interpreted in AE, making sure that “Preserve Edges” is checked… and then on export I sected “lossless” from the preset and made sure that I rendered both fields (lower first).

The result is a composited picture that retains the sharpness of the original.
