  • Can’t get audio from spdif/aes in

Posted by Jack Bone on November 7, 2006 at 9:14 pm

    Hi,
I’m trying to capture digital audio with the decklink HD pro, SPDIF/AES input. The audio comes from a Sony DAT machine that I can control with the remote cable, but I can’t get any audio signal, The DAT works fine I had tested it, I had checked the preferences: decklink preferences are set AES/EBU input, and G5 audio in preferences are in decklink. I don’t get any audio signal in FCP capture neither in the G5 audio in preferences.
    Please help.
    Thanks.

SPDIF is for monitoring (output) only! So no way you can capture on DeckLink via this jack.

    Hi.
I red that the Decklink can’t capture audio unless you capture video at the same time, is this true?
Is really no way to capture just audio?

If the DAT machine has has an SP/DIF optical out,
why not just plug it into your G5’s optical input?
Use any audio app to capture it.

It likes to see a signal on the video in but you aren’t obliged to capture it.

[Jack Bone] “I need to capture in 48000 Hz, G5 audio in is just 44100 Hz”
    Not true.
Open “Audio MIDI Setup” (in Utilities folder) and choose you sample and bit rate there.

Hi, Built in audio hardware at any apple computer have allways been limited, I don’t know why but many times is a problem. It can’t in any way capture audio in a different frequency that 44100 Hz. Try Audio MIDI Setup as you say and will see.
    Thanks a lot anyway.
But still need a solution with the decklink, At least would like a technical explanation why I can’t capture audio whithout video. Any Blackmagic engineer come here and fix the board! 🙂 (Hey, until now DeckLink worked just great, best quality and best price for hard work HD 444 capture)
    greetings.
    Jack.
