Cant find ProRes codecs in compressor or Adobe media encoder
I am trying to convert .movs from my canon 550d so I can edit in FC Express. I have Compressor 2 and understand the ProRes 422 codec is only available in FCP 6+
I have Adobe media encoder CS4 however and the prores codecs are still not showing up in the drop down menus.
I have the black macbook 2ghz intel core duo, hence why I am running FCE not FCP.
Do I need to install these codecs separately or are they not showing up because my computer isn’t up to spec?
If so, is there another codec I can use which will keep the quality of the video?

Are they installed? Go to:
Mac HD > Library > Quicktime and make sure the codec is there

Umm..i don’t think ProRes comes with Final Cut Express. If you convert to DVCPro HD, that will preserve your quality. I read a lot of people did that with HDV before ProRes came along

ProRes codecs (encoding codecs) ONLY come with Final Cut PRO. Rob is right.

My macbook cant run FCP so I need to find an equivalent codec that will let me edit in Express.
I have some footage shot at 1080p 24fps but Im not too sure if sequences in FCE will do that frame size. Im wondering if it will be better to shoot 720p?
Any ideas or work arounds?Thanks

FCE has a limited number of codecs it works with. Even if you had ProRes, FCE wouldn’t be able to work with it. Nor DVCPRO HD.
In this case, I’d recommend AIC – Apple Intermediate Codec.
