I’m trying to teach myself how to go from an offline sequence to online with no success. I linked to AMA, transcoded to DNxHD 45 on Drive 1 and cut a sequence in a bin I called offline. I then created a second bin called online, linked to AMA, and created DNxHD 220 onto a second drive- Drive 2.

I cut my offline sequence and dragged a copy of the sequence to my online bin(where my 220 clips are). I disconnected Drive 1, where my DNxHD 45 MXF files were and everything went offline. Great. Then I connected Drive 2, where my DNxHD 220 MXF files reside.

I right click on my sequence, relink, and choose All Drives and nothing relinks. I try again by choosing Drive 2, and nothing relinks. I then tried selecting my sequence and clips, right clicking the sequence, and choosing, “Selected items in All open bins” with no luck. My 220 clips are definitely there as I can see them in Frame view. I’ve also tried deleting the Master Clips and dragging the .mdb file into my bin and tried the process again with no luck.

I know an option would be to Decompose my original sequence but I’m not really familiar with how that works. Any help would be much appreciated.

Give the sources a Reelname and you can relink.
(make sure you do it for each source if you have overlapping TC’s)

    hi frank

here is a workflow that works for me and i think might save you some time on your next project

    1. link to AMA volumes (considering original camera folders are untouched)
    2. log, organize, rename (before or after transcode both ways work)
    3. transcode to offline DNX 36
    4. edit
    5. hide or rename your Avid Mediafiles folder, sequence will go offline
    6. reconnect AMA drive and relink your sequence, make sure all available drives is selected, as well as “allow relinking of AMA…”, also, in relink to, select any video format
    7. it should relink to your original AMA files
    8. select relinked sequence and transcode to higher DNX, like 185/220

this worked for me on canon projects as well as RED,
although acting slightly strange with RED files
(transcoded sequence clips are nameless, i think its a bug, need to further check it) it does work well

note that canon DSLR files can have the same name quite easily, 4 digit naming conventions are (for lack of better word) stupid. in this case i believe Bouke’s advice on reel names can come handy, though i’m not quite sure how to do it
you could probably solve the several (hopefully) conflicts coming from files with same name manually too
