  • can’t edit a title, any title into my sequence

Posted by Paul Dougherty on April 16, 2014 at 11:53 am

I’m new to Premiere but a week into my first job on it has been going smoothly. For reasons completely unclear I can’t edit a title, any title into my sequence. When I press insert or overwrite nothing would happen, no beep, no error message, no result in the TL.

This after editing loads of titles into this same master sequence before. Very strange, can edit titles into other sequences, can edit footage into this master sequence, so it’s not like the target track is locked or not patched. Made a new seq, copied the contents of my mstr seq into it… same problem!

Called Adobe support they asked me to the the same master copy routine, this time it worked (support mojo) go figure. Has anyone ever encountered this?

    Thanks,

    Paul

What version are you using? In CS6 the title “master” remains and is the source for every instance on the timeline…in CC, any “copy/paste” operations creates a clone or new “master” document…

It can be confusing for experienced users, much less someone trying to get used to the entire program…

Some more detailed step-by-step info would help us troubleshoot.

I’m not sure if this is in line with your issue, but I’ve noticed a similar problem occur with any kind of clips in the source monitor, titles as well as regular footage. Sometimes insert/overwrite functions just don’t work, and then I have to close the sequence or sometimes restart premiere altogether to get it work again. So I’m guessing it’s a bug…

Sorry Tim. I using CC 7.2.1

Only sort of understand the title “master” concept you describe. I don’t know if it has a bearing but I would generate brand new titles and still not be able to insert or overwrite, I will conduct more tests by dragging titles into TK instead

Thanks Jonathan, sounds similar – a restart did not seem to clear it up

Jonathan I just encountered what you described again (can’t do any edits), restart the application did not work. My master seq became edit proof. So I had to start a new seq and paste the contents of the uncooperative mstr seq into it and viola – I can edit into it again.

Besides being a tedious workaround – I seem to lose my renders and need to do them again

sometime in the first issue I described with titles, I could drag a title into a seq when the insert – overwrite buttons did not work

    Paul,
I’m having the same issue. In some projects, after creating a new title, I can hit the Overwrite Edit key and it will edit in the title. Other times it does nothing and I have to close the Title window, load the silt into the source window and edit in in that way. Can’t seem to find any rhyme or reason for it.
