  • can’t capture; old problem with QT or brand new problem with 5.1.4?

grazers, I have a sony HDV deck (HVR M10U) hooked up via firewire and trying to grab some HDV 1080i footage and a familiar problem is arising AND I have searched the old posts already. I see timecode but no video and audio and re-installing quicktime and trashing the reciepts does not help. is this a user error or a software update that I am not aware of? or something else? thanks for any suggestions.

Is your deck in DV mode and not HDV mode?

Did you select “capture video” in clip settings? It happened to me when installing 5.1.4. Sometimes when opened for the first time only “capture audio” is selected.

It is also possible that your tape was recorded on a JVC camcorder and cannot output video and audio. this is a known issue. If the JVC was an older camera and they used the 24P pro setting there is a good chance you will need to get the camera to upload.

We had this happen with our M25U deck prior to getting the Convergent designs box.

The M25U is able to output some of these formats ONLY out its HDMI port, which is why the Convergent designs box is useful here. It converts the HDMI output to SDI with embedded audio.
