My mackie 820i mixer interface is showing up in my capture presets in final cut pro 5, but a white window appears and quickly disapears when I attempt to capture live audio from a mic plugged into mixer.

I’m assuming this has worked before. Has it? Is any other FW device connected? Although, Macs may have a variety of FW ports, there’s only one FW controller. Often, adding a second FW device can cause both devices to stop working. So, if there’s a second device, remove it and see if that helps. Also, the old standard trash FCP prefs and repair permissions might help.

John, thanks for the response. I’m a bit of a newbie with this and am trying FCP for the first time. No other FW devices are connected. On launching FCP I get a message that it can’t locate Apple FireWire NTSC {720 x 480}. I can hit continue and it will launch. FCP is “seeing” my mixer/interface {I can see the 8 channels}, but it won’t capture the audio from the external device.
