  Canon XL2 not recognized

  I’m using a canon xl2 and trying to connect up to a hp pavillion and my laptop is not recognizing it.I’m using a firewire 4pin to 4pin.when I connect any other cam,(i.e. sony tvr22) my laptop instantly recognizes it.it’s like the canon XL2 is not being recognized as a device and my computer is unaware of it even being plugged in.

  any suggestions?
