We have a ton of older canon XL1s footage (NTSC old school) 4:3, 29.97 interlaced. We need to make mpeg4 h.264 download movies and mpeg2 for DVD. Clients will use both comoputer monitors and consumer TV’s.

    Should we de-interlace?

If so, whats the best plugin or technique? We have natress film effects, CGM, Joes filters and have heard about some technique of putting ony clip on top of the other ???

I’m asking because some of these plugins seem to mess up the picture (weird motion artifacts and/or lower the rez.)

    Thanks in advance

    More info …

We can encode the files either by compressor or quicktime pro (we prefer quicktime pro) and the DVD will be authored in DVDSPpro 3.0

    thanks,

You should deinterlace for the h.264. Optional for the DVD. Compressor can do a good job, but the best deinterlacing takes some time. I’ll let others say more about the correct software for the job.

IMHO the best software de-interlacer for a decent price is FieldsKit. Check the demo at http://www.revisionfx.com
