  • Canon XF100 MXF clip keeps re-conforming – problem

Posted by Janne Laiho on December 13, 2012 at 9:19 pm

    Hi,

I have a project with several (very long) Canon XF100 (MXF) clips. Premiere Pro CS6 takes a while conforming the clips when first setting up the project. The problem is that after having saved the conformed project, when re-opening the project PPro still wants to conform at least one clip (about 2 hours in duration), and conforming takes quite a while.

The problem clip is one where mid-recording the camera switched from memory card A to B, due to card A filling up. I don’t know whether this has anything to do with the problem, but I suspect it might, as this seems to be the problem clip.

I’ve tried moving original media to a new location and clearing the PPro cache, rebuilding the project, saving and re-opening. No luck, PPro wants to re-conform that one clip (at least) whenever I open the project.

The conformed files are somehwhere, as PPro seems to behave normally once conforming is done. However, it is most annoying and cumbersome to wait several dozen minutes whenever opening the project, as PPro wants to re-conform clips.

Any advice on how to make PPro not re-conform an already conformed project would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

    Cheers,
    Janne

I don’t know the answer but have never had a problem like this with card switching.so i think the problem is elsewhere. I am also running 6. Are you current on the updates?

    Try this:
In the preferences check Save Media Cache Files next to originals when possible.

    Hi,

thanks for your response. I’m afraid still re-conforming with the “Save Media Cache Files next to originals when possible”checked.

PPro always wants to re-conform that one particular clip, which is the one that was recorded as the camera changed from one memory card to the other. I wonder if there’s anything I could do apart from rendering out that clip and re-inserting that into the project? Thanks.

    Cheers
