I recommended the Canon XA10 to my client because it was, a) within their budget and, b) because it is listed as shooting native 1920 x 1080 at 60i. It also shoots 24p, but it is the 1920×1080 60i that it was purchased for, as that is the editing format of my client’s TV show.
The camera was delivered Friday, unpacked, prepped as per the instructions and a test project was shot at 60i. Set all Preferences and settings in my FCP 6.0.6 for 1920×1080 60i and used Log & Transfer. Transfer seemed simple, but I was vexed that the clips when they appear in the Bin are 1440&1080 and 29.97fps. Did some reading and found some discussion on “P-30.” Did some more tests & double checking of settings are got the same result.

Did notice that the settings gear in the Log & Transfer window kept bouncing back to “P2” from “AVCHD” as soon as I added a clip into the queue.

I’m still not sure whether I have overlooked some setting, or whether this is yet another case of corporate misleading advertising. It’s listed as 1920×1080 native with the default 60i. That, the pro-audio feature, and the price are the only reason the camera was chosen. If it can’t deliver, it’s getting returned.

Anyone have any luck using the Canon XA10 and getting it to import into FCP 6.0.6 at 1920×1080 60i ?

Did you ever get an answer on this? I can’t for the life of me figure out how to import this footage at anything other then 1440×1080.
