    So I plugged my external mic into the jack, set the audio to manual and set the volume appropriately and recorded something.

    There was a significant amount of background fuzz almost as if it still had AGC.

    I brought the file into my computer and split the channels. Even tho one of the channels was just fuzz the one with the recording had an equal amount of fuzz.

    Any suggestions?/similar issues?

    Which mic, cables, etc. Explain it to us as if we can’t see your rig from here. Also the built-in audio circuitry in the T3i is kinda cruddy.

    Also, does your mic require power? For instance does it need AA or a 4 volt batteries? I don’t think the camera supplies power.
