  Canon MP170 on iMac 17″ 2GHz Intel Core 2 Duo

  Having trouble connecting a Canon PIXMA MP170 to a new iMac.
  Ran the installer from the supplied disc, which shows no errors, and successfully starts after the required restart.
  When I try to add a new Printer (it’s a brand new machine – no other hardware added, no new software installed, just the frest start OS) the Canon just doesn’t show up.
  I downloaded the drivers from Canon.com which may have been later than those on the disc (don’t know) and these were intel-appropriate drivers, but didn’t do anything different.
  Tried reinstalling the Canon printer drivers from the Receipts package, but that fails. Interestingly, when I tried the same thing on a 24″ iMac at work, it failed too. (This package, I believe, is installed as part of OSX.)

  Anyone got any clues on what to do?
