    Hello,

I understand this may be a completely amateurish question I’m asking and the answer may be right in front of my eyes but I can’t for the life of my figure it out.

I have recently been bought a Canon Legria FS200 camera and but when I film, the output can only be displayed in 4:3 ratio, this is fine if I record in 4:3 but if I record in widescreen it then squashes the image into 4:3 ratio, how can I change this?

I can post a link to a video I’ve done to demonstrate but I don’t want it to look like I’m just trying to get views on YouTube so I’ll post it up only if people don’t quite understand what its doing.

Any help with this would be most appreciated as it makes my videos look rather amateurish which obviously is not the look I’m going for.

    Thanks Again

    Daniel Frost

You are using a DV PAL camcorder, all DV whether standard or widescreen is in a 4:3(720×576 pixel matrix)the difference is the horizontal aspect ratio of the pixels or PAR(pixel aspect ratio) the widescreen is a anamorphic image, it is widescreen squeezed into a 4:3 frame which is expanded on a widescreen tv if a WS flag is present if not you have to manually set the widescreen tv to show it correctly, here is a link about anamorphic dv tv
