    Hey Folks,

What is the expected performance when transcoding Canon h264 .mov files to DNXHD 145? I’m using a new MacPro 12-core, 64gb, dual d700 GPU., fast 8gb FC stornext SAN (does about 800-900 mb/s).

I’m only getting about 36fps. Is this normal? I seem to be getting the same performance form our 6-core machines with d500 GPU’s.

    Media is h264, 1920×1080, 23.976, .mov wrap.

The CPU utilization barely registers — about 80% idel.

    I think on a 4,1 12-core 2.66 with gtx570 2.5GB I get much better performance. Could this be a 10.9 thing?

    thanks,

    Jonathon

H.264 is a pain in the ass no matter what you do.

    What Marc said.

You may try downloading Adobe Creative Cloud and try out Adobe Media Encoder. That’s what I transcode footage through and it’s the fastest encoder/transcoder I’ve seen (though Telestream Episode gives it a good run for it’s money).
