I have been dealing with 1080i footage in a Quicktime wrapper for about 2 year, now. It comes from an unusual Casio EX F1 Hybrid that also shoots at 300, 600 and 1200 fps (in SD). On any of my PC workstations, any clip would soon crash Sony Vegas 9 and Premiere Pro CS4. Finally, the latest versions of these NLE’s play and edit it fine after previewing. Up until this point, I found that Vision, a simple, limited little NLE that comes with Ahead’s Nero burning program, would play it perfectly and could actually be used as a rough cut app, with amazingly fast renders. Likewise, the Showtime viewer, also included, plays all and every HD clip I have ever opened in it. Just tried some 1080p from a 7d in Vision played perfectly! Food for thought!
