I haven’t had this camera a week yet, but already I have run into more questions than I can find answers for in the manual. I have run a few tests with all three frame rates in 1080i, and read just about every thread on HDV here from the last year and a half.

For best quality it seems native HDV Firewire acquisition is a good choice, (thanks Graeme!) but with vertical resolution issues (which I can’t see with my old eyes) and the plethora of workflows in FCP Studio 2 I can’t decide on which framerate to adopt as my normal everyday format. 24F makes sense from a DVD/Web end use standpoint, but then, so does 30F, and the later seems to look cleaner in NTSC when it goes to tape as SD, which a lot of my projects do. So I’d welcome pros and cons, both subjective and practical.

Capturing HDV in any of the 3 frame rates works fine, except it seems to create a new clip every time the camera starts, using capture now anyway. Does blacking the tapes with timecode fix this? Or do I need to log my clips? I’ve used capture now with discreet file names to speed up my work flow and it’s always worked fine with SD stuff.

I’m sure there’s more, but that’s it for now, and yes, I do know there’s a Canon forum here, but it seems kinda sleepy.
