Canon 7D issue
Posted by John Sinclair on July 28, 2010 at 2:46 amI’ve loaded the plugin from Canon but still cannot get Canon 7D .movs to show up in “Log and Transfer” in order to convert/edit them. They show up as being in my folder but light gray, not highlighted so I can’t select them.
Final Cut 6.0.6
Mac OS X 10.6.4
Not compatible???

July 28, 2010 at 5:50 amYou just point L&T to the ROOT folder containing the files. They will then appear in the Log and Transfer interface.

July 28, 2010 at 9:57 amI’m having the same problem with FCP 6.0.6. on my MacBook Pro.
It works fine on my MacPro and FCP7, even when transferring the same files from the same drive that won’t work on the MacBook Pro with FCP6.
I’ve tried pretty much everything except upgrading the FCP 6.0.6 to FCP 7.

July 28, 2010 at 1:58 pmI am attempting to point to the root folder but thats not correcting the issue – they still appear light gray/un-clickable. Seems to be an issue for 10.6.6?
Bummer. Not sure what to do now! I have this camera and cant edit!

July 28, 2010 at 5:34 pm[John Sinclair] “they still appear light gray/un-clickable.”
You shouldn’t be seeing the clips at ALL when you use log and transfer and are pointing at the main folder. You click on the folder icon on the upper left, point at the root folder, then click OPEN. You should NOT be seeing the clips in this window. After you click OPEN on the root folder, then the clips should start populating the log and transfer interface. Or, if something is wrong, it will give an error.
Thus far you are doing something wrong if you see the clips and they are grey. You shouldn’t be seeing them.

July 28, 2010 at 8:06 pmThanks, Shane.
Seems like I may not have the correct directory structure.
I’m new to Mac so no idea where these files should live. I just connected camera through iPhoto and they were brought in that way. There’s no DCIM folder.

July 28, 2010 at 8:20 pmIf you lack the full card structure, then Log and Transfer will not work. You need to copy the FULL contents of the CF card to a folder, give that folder a unique name or number (this will be the reel number), and THEN you can use log and transfer. If you only have the movie files, and not the other files also on that card, including the ones that are in the same folder as the .mov files, you cannot log and transfer.
Now you are limited to Compressor or MPEG STREAMCLIP.

July 28, 2010 at 8:28 pmAh, lesson learned.
Seems like this first time I around I didn’t know to bring in files through FCP using the Canon Plugin. I guess I’ll have to labor through each clip, converting through Compressor?

July 28, 2010 at 8:35 pmWhat labor? Drop them all in Compressor, drag the ProRes setting onto them, press SUBMIT, let it go. Do it overnight while you sleep.

July 28, 2010 at 8:57 pmThat’s a minor shift in the GAMMA. You are converting one format to another, a slight shift is to be expected. Just color correct it to how you want it to look and export.
