[Allen Esmail] “1.How Should My Work flow be setup? “

Watch this tutorial on importing tapeless media into FCP…including Canon DSLR:

Tapeless Workflow for FCP 7 Tutorial

The footage will be converted to ProRes, and FCP will automatically make the sequence settings match. Be sure to have at least a Firewire 800 drive.

Ah…. if you didn’t save the full card structure, then L&T won’t work.. Please watch the tutorial to see the proper procedures for this. Now you need to use MPEG STREAMCLIP or Compressor to convert to ProRes.

[Allen Esmail] “2. why does rendering take ages? “

Because you are trying to edit H.264 files…and who knows what your sequence settings are, or what computer you are using. Only you know that. You can tell us…

[Allen Esmail] “3. how to eliminate long renders?”

Convert the footage to an edit friendly format, like ProRes, and use ProRes sequence settings…then you won’t have to render at all, until you add filters.

[Allen Esmail] “4.any tips from the experts? “

    See above.

[Allen Esmail] “Once I Compres it to pro res…what do i do when i finish?”

Export to your final format. Be it tape, DVD, web. ProRes is a full res format. And yes, it is about 4-5 times the size of the current files. That’s what happens when you convert to full res editing format.

[Allen Esmail] “will it go back to original image?”

No, you don’t go back to the originals. This is your final version.

[Allen Esmail] “so now that i kno next time to save from original structure what can i do with work i have saved to my desktop (“.mov)??”

Back those up…save them. They are your masters. they take up a lot less room than the converted files.
