    FCP Friends-

I am shooting video with my Canon 60D on a SDXC Class 10 card, using Log and Transfer to put the footage on a external Western Digital 1TB hard drive. I am wondering the following:

    – What is the best sequence setting to use in FCP?
    – What is the best export setting using Export using Quick Time Conversion that is 1) smallest file size, 2) fastest render, 3) Still 720p quality, and 4) Ready to be uploaded to Vimeo and playback on Pro Video Player.

    Thank you for your help!

If you’re only going to Vimeo – then shoot 1280X720_60 on the camera.
Use a canon plug-in to L&T your files from the hard drive into FCP, set the prefs to convert on ingest using ProResHQ codec.
    Edit.
    Export using “Current Settings”
Compress for Vimeo using the app compressor.

Read up on their site the best submission format, they give you the specs.

From everything I read there’s no need to use anything above ProResLT for the DSLR, since going higher will not give you better overall quality. The only real reason to go higher is if you’re going to be using lots of Filters on the things you shot

Vimeo has some excellent tutorials on how to obtain the best quality export from various NLE’s.

Here you will find links to most of them including how to create a droplet for Compressor if you are doing this on a regular basis.
