Hopefully somebody will be able to help me.

I have two lots of footage. One set from a Canon 5D MkII and one from a Canon HV30. The footage from the 5D is 1920x 1080, H.264 and 30 FPS and the footage from the HV30 is HDV1080i50, 25 FPS.

I am looking to edit FCP but just wondering what the best way of converting one or other is to make them a bit more compatible for edit?

Also any advice on how the project should be set up in FCP?

    Very grateful for any guidance!

    Kind regards

    Alex

I just had this issue last week with the 5dmkII…convert all your files to pro res 422, you can batch process in apple compressor. drag and drop your files in and select the appropriate pro res compression then eat your favorite snack. 🙂

to the above I would add, what frame rate do you need the final to be in, convert the other to that also.

As Michael points, the important question is in which time base you want to make your master.
Transcoding the footage to a common codec is not a problem. As Keith says, you can do it with Compressor. Some people are using MPGStreamclip that have as well Batch Export.
The hardl task is to convert the 30pfs footage to 25 or the 25fps to 30.

Thanks for your advice guys. Converting the footage as we speak to Pro Res and 30 FPS. Gonna take a little while though!
