    Hi

Just started editing a project that has been shot on 5D (1920×1080) and RED (2048X1024).
The final output needs to be both on SD and HD.
The trouble is that the RED Files don’t actually fit in 16X9 aspect ratio of 5D and vice versa.

I think there are two ways to solve this

    1. Scaling the RED footage to somewhere around 107%
    2. Using a wide screen matte of 2:1 on the entire time line.

    Am I right?
    Can anyone suggest something else?

2048×1024 is clearly not 16×9, so you either mask or crop the stuff that is 16×9 or scale the RED stuff up and lose the right and left edges of the frame. Those are your choices.

    Yes, those are your options.

Next time shoot 2k 16:9 and the footage will scale properly in to a 16:9 frame.

Sometimes you can’t if shooting 120fps, though.
