Cannot view audio track of an MTS file …have tried rebuilding Peaks… any tips?
Posted by Andy Abulafia on November 27, 2011 at 9:33 pmHi, i have a bunch of 2gb Sony MTS files I strung together using COPY /B.
The resultant big file (about 9gb) plays great and is perfect in all respects… exceptI cannot see the audio timeline graphic. Which isn’t normally a huge problem except I have sources from two cameras and I am trying to sync audio up.
I’ve tried View Rebuild Peaks… but I just get flatlines.
(Please don’t yell at me – Vegas 8.1 running XP x64 :-))

November 27, 2011 at 10:20 pmlol…We wont yell, Nothing is wrong still running Vegas 8
on Win XP. (But updating would be in your best interest).
Firstly, do you here the audio loud and clear during
playback on the timeline?Steve Rhoden

November 28, 2011 at 12:30 amhi steve…..yeah the audio is just normal. plays fine when previewing (and rendering) in Vegas. Just get “flatline” for the left and right channels.
P.S. while on the subject of Vegas versions… i run 8.1 on XP64. It runs fine (the only issues I have are user based!). For what I do (simple home editing using mostly sony avchd and some kodak/flip type cameras rendering to blu ray .mts files) do i really need to jump to version 11?
I would also need to ditch xp64 and get win7 i suppose … for my limited requirements are there any other compelling reasons why i should from 8.1 to 11?

November 28, 2011 at 1:20 amIf i had your system, even for basic home editing, i would
easily bump it up to Windows 7-64bit and go with Vegas Pro 10.
Still decent enough for what you want.If all else fails, you can open up the audio in your audio
editor (you can too use your open in audio editor icon),
and then save back the audio, im sure it will then be
viewed correctly on the Vegas timeline.Steve Rhoden

November 28, 2011 at 1:29 amAndy, I have no idea if this will work or not but it’s worth a try.
Open a clip in the trimmer and see if the audio tracks show up there.
If they do, drag it from the trimmer to the timeline and see if they they still show up. -

November 28, 2011 at 1:56 amOne more thought while I think of it.
Look in the folder where your source files are and see if there are any files with the .sfl extension.
If there are, delete them, open the project again and let Vegas rebuild the audio waveforms. -

November 28, 2011 at 3:23 pmhey thanks for the tips, i think we are good now. I deleted all the Vegas files created (sfk or .sfl, can’t remember which) and the audio looks good. I can now sync the clips together just fine… However, I now have more weirdness when I try to use in Multicamera mode!
(should I post here or do a new Post?)
so… I get my 2 videos synced up just great. I am viewing in Multicamera mode. I select my track, create a multicamera track, enable multicamera edit, chose some good takes… etc.
It previews PERFECTLY!
But when I render it stays in sync until it switches to a different take. Then it’s out by a few seconds or so. And when it goes back to the roginal camera view it is still out of sync.
Any thoughts? both audio tracks are 48k. One is a Kodak Playtouch MP$, the other is a Sony AVCHD mts file.
thanks in advance!

November 29, 2011 at 1:17 amok… so I just downloaded the version 11 software off the Sony website. I now need to get a copy of Win7 pro which I am hoping to get tomorrow from Fry’s 🙂
I am HOPING that all my audio sync issues and generally instability issues get addressed going from v8.1 to v11.
(wish me luck!)
One last question before I signoff – – when rendering I should use the Sony AVCH and NOT mainconcept, right? Version 8 does not allow 1920×1080 for Sony AVCHD (only 720) – is this addressed in v11 do you know?
thanks!!!
