Cannot use MPEG, H.264 for pro/commercial use?
Has anyone else noticed in the SLA (Software License Agreement) from Apple for Final Cut Studio, that we cannot use the MPEG-2, MPEG-4 and H.264 encoders for commercial use? The license says they are for personal/consumer use only, and there are clauses about not being able to use them to create works for sale (disks that are replicated, sold, stored/used by customers, etc.) I’m not a legal expert, so maybe I don’t understand this well, but it sure looks like we are not allowed to use the encoding parts of FCS for use other than personal, consumer use.
The clause #13 and beyond, in the SLA for FCS, is where I read this.

That’s curious. Apple probably did pay the fees to allow the encoders to be used commercially – I’m sure they leased the technology to encode these formats from someone else.
and…. what in the world are you doing reading SLA’s on a Friday afternoon!

Well, if I can’t use this software for commercial use and it’s Friday afternoon then I guess there’s no reason to stay here. It’s Miller time!
