I successfully printed an 18 minute portion of my film to tape using the Print To Tape Tools

Problem is, I have another 55 minute portion, exactly the same set up, and it crashes half way through, every friggin time. I cannot solve.

I have moved the prerender folder to a different drive (not where the os is), there’s plenty of room, I have 2GB 400DDR ram, a 3.GHZ P4 processor, the whole deal.

crash crash crash Vegas stops because of “an exception occured” and no clue how to fix it.

Is it crashing after 18 minutes all the time (are your drives NTFS or Fat32)?

    What version are you running — 5.x, 6.0c, etc…?

Is it a DV Transfer your are trying to export?

Can you export the entire video into one DV .avi onto a hard drive, then just send that file to tape (instead of from a timeline)?

Yes, I would try rendering the project to a single DV-AVI file. Does that work? If yes, then put that one file on a new timeline a do a PTT with it. If now, where does it die? The same place? If yes, I would look closely at the footage at that place. Perhaps you have a bad piece of media.

    Here’s your pointer –
    Version 6.0c (Build 153)
    Exception 0xC0000005 (access violation) READ:0x1 IP:0x1

This occurs when there is a read error from the drive – in fact, exactly the same symptoms I had a while back.

The result was an overclock setting in the BIOS which I had used and unbeknown to me at the time, this does affect the read performance, especially from SATA drives.

I would try setting your BIOS settings to default – not the “highest speed” or similar setting.

    Cheers

    Jeremy

Well, I should not have to do this- but I DO….

Instead of trying to print the mpg file to tape, I re-rendered back to avi, NTSC DV properties,
and this prints. Note- once I re-render back to avi, I don’t have to wait for a prerender again to print.

I will also try resetting the bios to default (although I don’t even know if its set to high performance) as suggested below and will see if this allows me to read the mpg file.

The problem was somewhat related to improper bio settings-

one of the responses below suggested that a “high performance” bio setting was causing problems, but I knew in my case this wasn’t it, because I had done all kinds of work and not changed the bios.

Further, it would seem improbable– although possible– that high performance settings wouldn’t slow down things or stop things, but would rather speed things up.

However, the note that the “exceptions” indicated problems reading the drive– EUREKA-
I had installed a generally good working ACOUSTIC MANAGEMENT program that installs from floppy on boot up– Hitatchi Feature Tool, which will slow down drive speeds at variable levels, and allow you to quiet down or completely silence drive seek noises. It works too, on most drives. It had not given me problems previously, but I had not installed since I finished my project months ago.

I removed the acoustic management feature, thus getting the drives back up to full speed.

I can now print this large 55 minute project to tape from mpg direct, without having to re-render.

Too bad Vegas doesn’t give you a solution, or isn’t more specific about error messages.

Maybe you can get with the code developers at Sony Media and figure out how to tap Vegas 6d into our frontal lobes. Then it can see the history of software we have installed or plan to install. Thus preventing errors from the end user trying to get them to perform better….(Just kidding). I checked out your website and I have enjoying reading it.

most of my computer problems are self induced….. I think there one day be a term called “Computer lock-up rage”

The other day I had the same problem you had. The solution was not to use Zenote letterbox plug-in.
