Cannot PRINT TO TAPE!!@!! Vegas 6

Printing to tape *IS* DV-AVI – NOT MPEG 2. You’ve lost quality by doing that. Instead, your original timeline should have been DV-AVI. You then do a PTT with that original footage. You ONLY go to MPEG2 when you want to go to DVD.

Well, I understand, however, this is a tape being formatted for regular TV broadcast, which is low resolution to begin with, not HDTV. Mpg files look perfectly good on interlaced TV, as which DVDs are.

I attempted to make a BEST render back to AVI, and was completely unsuccessful after many tries- always a glitch/error before finishing. Good grief, you would think there would be something in the Vegas manual about restrictions, but there are not.

A regular GOOD quality AVI can be re-rendered from the mpg file, and that will print to tape.

Nothing in the Vegas manual says anything, however, that alludes that ONLY avi files can be written to tape- obviously not true, because I did exactly this with my first 18 minute section of film.

PROBLEM

1) I printed to tape an MPG project of 18 minutes to tape. No problemo

2) Tried to repeat process with identical type of project of 55 minutes. Error every time at some point.
Different points, but after a certain length of time- project errors out.

3) Defragmented, moved temp folders, nothing worked. After a certain amount of time, unpredictably so- the thing crashes.

4) FRONTAL LOBES POP!!!

5) I opened a generally really really excellent program- DISKKEEPER PRO for defragmenting the hard drives.
IT WAS RUNNING all by itself, and on the drive my temp Vegas and rendered files were going on. It ground the rendering frame rate to less than snails pace. I stopped the program– didn’t even know WHY it was running all by itself, I certainly didn’t turn it on– and as soon as I stopped it- voila, the rendering frame rate sped up to normal, and the project completed.

Apparently, as I soon found, I had accidentally turned on AUTO DE-FRAGMENT on the very drive I was using for files in Vegas. No wonder the project wouldn’t finish. Apparently, every hour or so, the Diskeeper program began running, and invariably sabatoged my 55 minute project.

I would recommend Diskeeper to everyone and anyone, it is really a great program, much better for defragmenting than regular Windows XP defragmenter– but for gosh sakes–DON”T LET IT AUTO DEFRAG!!
