    hi there
i am a complete beginner and i have just started learning about making small films using sony vegas 5 and i am just finding my feet around the program so i apologise if i am asking a really simple question.

i started doing some basics and watching the results in the preview monitor in the bottom right of the screen but then i must have clicked something wrong as the preview display disappeared and no amount of pressing alt4 will bring it back, even though it is ticked in the view menu i now cannot find it anywhere.

can anyone let me know what i am doing wrong? please let me know if you need any more information

    many thanks in advance

It is minimized and hidden under the windows taskbar.

A shortcut to open the video preview window is ALT+4. That is, the ALT key and number 4 key down at the same time. Also, the video preview can be opened and closed in the drop down menu under “View.” It’s labelled “video preview.”

    Hope this helps.

That will help if it’s not open at all. That won’t help if it’s already open but has been moved off the screen which is usually the case. It’s usually hidden somewhere off the screen that you can’t see.

My usual suggestion is to change the screen resolution, find it, move it back to the main area, and then reset the screen resolution.

In the newer versions of Vegas, you can also go to View – Window Layouts – Load Default Layout.

Another alternative is to hold down CTRL-SHIFT and start Vegas. That will reset it back to “factory defaults”.
