  • Can you set a poster frame on clips in the Clip Browser?

I usually use “View as Large Icons” in FCP 7 and will often manually set the poster frame for each thumbnail to remind me of what I liked most in a (potentially long) shot.

When I use FCP X’s Browser with the filmstrip view zoomed out to a single image for each clip, I’d love to be able to choose what that image is. Do you know if it’s possible to do that? I’m guessing no, but thought I’d ask.

Mark a frame (or better yet a range) and favorite it (f). You can set multiple favorites per clip.

Then you can view just the favorites.

Never would have thought of that–thanks! That actually works pretty well, especially since you can place a Favorited range in the timeline and then lengthen the clip into the ‘unfavorited’ handle if need be.

Yes, much friendlier than sub clips and the limits they imposed!

I know this is an old thread but….what if there is just one clip that I want to set a poster frame? If I make a favorite form that clip, I can ONLY view all clips OR favorites. I can’t view all clips plus that 1 favorite clip. Know what I mean?

I guess you’d have to dupe the clip, set a range for what you’d like to remove and hit backspace to reject it. Sort Browser by “hide rejected”.
