Can you make a clip out of a render file?
Hello everyone,
My question is whether it’s possible to make a clip out of a render file if the captured material is no longer available. I would need to use the clip in a new project, not the original one associated with the render file.
Experiences like this have motivated me to become a file managing Overlord. I will spare you the details of how I lost the capture files and related media like portraits in psd format, etc. because who wants to reveal how idiotic they were when they began this journey.
If I can do it, I’d save hours of work and lots of crow-eating with a returning client.

Yep, you can actually just import any Render clip as they are stand-alone Quicktime movies.

If you intend on repurposing the render files again I recommend saving the specific render files as part of the overall media you backup.
This will allow you to use the render files for multiple projects in the future.
The stupid thing about FCP is it can’t reconnect the render files once the links have been lost and results in rerendering all the renders once your recall the project with broken links.
Why FCP has the reconnect renders as a option is a mystery to me.
