  • Can you input XML code from FCP 7 into FCP 6.0.6?

Posted by Jonathan Salemi on September 10, 2009 at 8:18 pm

I’m sure this question has been asked before but my editor cut a project in FCP 7 and I have the prior version FCP 6.0.6. He exported me an XML but just one of the 4. When I input it it asks for the translation files.

How can I input XML from 7 into 6 so this way I can relink all the clips but his edits stay in tact? Am I suppose to export all 4 types of XMLs? Btw, I have the hard drive with all the files, he doesn’t.

    Thank you 🙂

They need to export an XML, version 4, from FCP 7. Then you go FILE>IMPORT>XML into FCP 6, and if the drive with the media is connected, it should all just work.

Have him export XML v4, then you need to go to File > Import > XML.
