  • Can you digitize JVC HDV footage on any other HDV camera

Posted by Danny Dodge on May 8, 2008 at 10:42 pm

I’ve got an HDV tape shot on a JVC 110. I need to digitize it, but I don’t have a JVC. I could get a Sony HDV camera, but don’t want to rent one till I know it will work. Anyone have any experience in this?
    Thanks,
    Danny

JVC HDV only plays back on JVC HDV cameras or JVC HDV decks.

[Shane Ross] “JVC HDV only plays back on JVC HDV cameras or JVC HDV decks.”

Shane, the JVC HDV 30P mode (which is mostly what people shoot with) is definitely playable on the Sony HVRM25U HDV deck. 24p is not.

    I verified that last week.

I wish the damn JVC deck would at least play the Sony/Canon 1080i as a return favor but alas it does not.

Danny, download the owners manual for the camera you would rent and see if it has 720P HDV playback in the chart of playback options. I’m pretty sure I’ve seen that.
