My friend likes what he sees of Vegas when he sees some of the things that I can easlly do with the program. At the same time I know that he is thoroughly disalussioned with all of the Windows problems he has.

Well, it can run on Mac’s using bootstrap yes, But
otherwise from that…None that i know of.

No, currently Vegas Pro only runs on Windows.

Actually, it’s not a program. It’s called ‘Bootcamp’ and it’s built into Mac OS X and what it does is allow you to install Windows on Mac hardware so you are still running Windows. It’s not a ‘capability’ for any particular program; it just runs Windows on your Mac. There is no getting away from needing Windows to run Vegas Pro.

No, Vegas Pro does not work on Linux. Most software on Linux is free and most people who use Linux expect their software to be free so it’s not a profitable OS to target. Some people have tried to run Vegas Pro with Wine which is a Windows emulator on Linux but I wouldn’t depend on that working.

You can also run Vegas Pro with Windows using VMware Fusion or Parallels Desktop. Both of these will allow you to install Windows into a virtual machine right on your Mac desktop. This is how I run Vegas Pro on my Mac using VMware Fusion 6.0. Here is a screenshot (notice the Vegas Pro icon down in my dock area):

The bottom line is that Vegas currently requires Windows. Sony did port Sound Forge to Mac OS X. Hopefully they are working on doing the same for Vegas Pro but we won’t know that until something is announced.

I’m running Vegas on Bootcamp with no problem, and was wondering if you noticed an performance issue with VMware Fusion. I had read that it was more taxing on the system running it this way than it was to run it through boot camp; however, talking to someone who is actually running their setup with way gives the best perspective, so I thought I would ask.

What you loose with VMware Fusion is GPU support. So I only use this for simple edits but I use Boris Continuum Complete a lot and you need to use Bootcamp to get the OpenGL support that Boris FX needs. So it’s more of a convenience for light editing. I still have Windows desktop for heavy lifting. VMware Fusion can load your Bootcamp partition so if you just need to make some quick edits, it’s better than rebooting.
