Can Vegas do remote editing by scripting?
Hi all,
I’m new to Vegas, here is my question:
I have some HDV tapes and captured to computer as AVI files, due to time limit, I can’t finish editing in Toronto, is there any way I can give the edit task to my friend in Sydney so he can edit it by using scripting? he has no HDV camcorder so I can’t send him HDV tapes and big AVI file is not good to transfer over Internet.
I’m considering if I can conver those big AVI files to small files (by reduing resolution) and then send him those small files, he edit with those small files then send me the .veg file and I use the .veg file to render the big original AVI files to destination HDV file.
If this feasible? or any help from scripting or whatever method?

Yes, you can do exactly what you suggest – use low resolution files (be careful to create exact one-for-one files and name them the same or corresponding names to the originals) to do the edit elsewhere.
When the edited veg is opened back on your computer, Vegas will ask where the files are and you can point to the originals.
I don’t know of any script which would help here – it’s a fairly straightforward process.

… just an afterthought. To verify how the process works before doing all that work, create a couple of files and do a simple edit yourself with the low res files. Close Vegas, change the name of the folder they are in then point Vegas to the originals.

I agree with Peter. You don’t really need a script for this. Just do a “File – Render As” to each of the files and render them to a smaller format. That should allow you to do what needs to be done.
