Can someone settle this?
A little discussion over at the COW Premiere Pro forum:
Does Avid “run” on Quicktime. Although it was always my understanding Avid converted QT to it’s own proprietery omfi format, a PPro poster has me second guessing myself. He insists that omf is simply a Quicktime wrapper and that Avid won’t run on a Mac or PC without QT. Since I’ve successfully stopped the QT process in XP without issues I know this isn’t the case. Our Media Manager says QT is used for display purposes on the Mac.
So who’s right?

Try to run Avid without QuickTime.
