  • Can preview but not import some P2 files

    Creative Cow Crew,

    Try this one on:

I was importing some P2 files into FCP 5 (most recent updates installed) from a lacie hard drive, and was able to preview all clips I wanted, but was repeatedly refused by FCP when I tried to import some of them.

All the files are complete, including Contents folder and Lastclip.txt. The odd thing is that all clips show up in the browser window, and ALL clips can be played in the preview window, with audio, no worries, but only SOME of the clips form that particular P2 card file will import into FCP and become proper Quicktimes.

I also copied the clips to my internal drive off the LaCie and tried to import them that way–no difference. Last, I even changed the capture scratch folder to make sure there wasn’t a problem there. No dice still.

Anybody with an explanation? All clips were shot 24PN at 720P on an HVX200.

    Thanks,

    Burk

In the import window…above the P2 Browser on the upper left….there is a little sprocket drop down menu. Click on that and choose PREFERENCES. Now uncheck REMOVE PULLDOWN.

    Try again.

    Thanks Shane,

That did the trick. A bit odd, isn’t it, since it was all shot the same way, same frame rate, but only would download some clips without that box unchecked.

    Best regards,

    Burk

I am having the same issue in Final Cut 6. I see files in Log in and Transfer window but cannot import some of them into Final Cut. I have tried unchecking “remove advance pulldown” but that did not solve it. Any ideas?
    Thank you,
    Yuliya

    Hi Yuliya,

Shane Ross answered my questions with regard to FCP 5, mentioning it was a bug with the P2 import window in that version of Final Cut (read entire thread).

With regard to FCP 6 I’m not the one to answer your questions, although I did have a friend with the same issue. There are many out there (Barry Green inluded I believe) who suggest that Final Cut’s P2 import window is the least stabil way of converting raw P2 file folders into quicktimes at DVCProHD. Other than that, trashing your preferences and re-starting FCP can clear up many issues (it’s kinda like an old Volkswagen that way).

    Good luck,

    Burk
